WESTERN FAMILIES NOWADAYS
The concept of family nowadays is very different from the concept of the nuclear family, which was very popular in the 60's.
For me it is important to understand through research what can be a family nowadays.

What were the family structures in the past ?

Before the 20th century, in the western world, we had extended families. Multiple generations would live together under the same roof. If the parents had to work, the grand-parents, or aunts and uncles, cousins, would take care of the children.

However, after the Second World War, smaller families started to develop. These families are called "nuclear families", with two parents and 2,5 children. This family structure was quite stable until divorce became more accessible.

Nowadays, nuclear families still exists, but it can also result in stepfamilies and/or single parent families.

I grew up in a single parent family, and therefore I consider it as a normal way of growing up.

Another interesting question could also be : Are single parent families represented in media ?
